I spent several days in Pickens county mtns. so I decided to go up to Lake Conasauga to look for the Red Crossbills that have been reported there. I got to the beaver pond on Songbird Trail around 9:30 Wednesday morning. I was unable to locate the Crossbills but there were many Hooded Warblers around the pond. I saw six and heard at least that many more. A Cedar Waxwing was flying overhead eating insects. There was also an early Northern Waterthrush feeding in the trail. I then walked up the closed forest service road to the tower on Grassy Mtn. Elevation 3690 feet. For the trip down I took the tower trail that links back up with the Songbird Trail at the pond. On the way down there was a mixed flock of feeding birds that contained an impressive selection. Hooded m, Red Start f, Blackburnian m, Canada f, Black Throated Green m, and Black Throated Blue m, Warblers. Red Eyed Vireo, White Breasted Nuthatch, Downy Woodpecker im., and two Chickadees. A Red Breasted Nuthatch was calling near the pond and a Broad Winged Hawk was calling over the Lake. The Crossbills were seen yesterday morning by the lake but not the beaver pond.

Almost forgot that in Pickens County on Monument Road there were Blackburnians, Black and Whites, Black Throated Greens, a Worm Eating Warbler, many Red Eyed Vireos and Indigo Buntings.
