Tallassee Forest is owned by Athens-Clarke County. It is not currently open to the public. Thanks to partnering with the Oconee River Land Trust ORAS will be able to explore this tract. We will enter Tallassee Forest from a power easement on Tallassee Road and proceed down the easement to the stream, wetland and floodplain forest and then back on a ridge road. The roundtrip is 5 miles and on uneven ground. The easements are good birding areas and those who want to leave early can turn around at any time.
Directions:
Take Exit 15, Tallassee Oglethorpe from Loop 10 on the bypass.
Go 4 miles out Tallassee Rd.
Look for Burney-Harris Lyons Middle School on the right.
Park in the front of the school parking lot.
