The Oconee Rivers Adubon Society relies on people like you to make our association a success. We have many volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Please check our Upcoming page for events! If you are here because you'd like Audubon to host a program, please visit our Education page.
Please contact our President, Edwige Damron, if you would like to volunteer or suggest volunteer opportunities to us.
Trail Cleaning: Twice a year ORAS hosts a trash pickup for the Cook's Trail at Sandy Creek Nature Center. This 2 mile trail follows Sandy Creek from the Sandy Creek Nature Center north to the Sandy Creek Park. You may join us for all or part of the trail, we appreciate any help you can provide.
Christmas Bird Count: Every year in December, ORAS hosts the Clarke/Okonee County Christmas Bird Count. This is a 24 hour birding marathon where teams are assigned a territory and try to detect as many species and count as many individuals as possible. At the end of the day we have a dinner where we sum up the day's findings. You don't have to dedicate the whole day to the count, so don't let your busy schedule interfere with some good fun. This is a great way to increase your own birding knowledge by birding in small groups with some of the most talented birders our area provides!
Education: Periodically ORAS attends tabling events at the Sandy Creek Nature Center and elsewhere. If you would like to help with our displays or sit at the table, please contact us. Occassionally we are approached by other organizations to give presentations discussing a topic of interest. If you are interested in teaching please contact us!
Sandy Creek Nature Center: ORAS works closely with the Nature Center. If you'd like to volunteer with the Nature Center, please visit their website HERE.
Board Membership: We currently have an opening on the board! We need a Field Trip chair. Please send us a cover letter outlining why you should be considered for the position to our President, Edwige Damron.
