Field Trip to Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center

Event Date:
Saturday, May 6, 2017 - 7:00am

The Oconee Rivers Audubon Society will be taking a field trip to the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center south of Mansfield Georgia.  We will carpool from the Shops of South Athens Shopping Center on South Milledge Avenue (behind the Waffle House) leaving at 7:00AM.  We expect to arrive at Charlie Elliott around 8:00AM and will likely bird until noon or 1:00 depending on how good the birding is.  For anyone wanting to meet us there we will not be going straight to the Visitor Center at the main entrance.  Rather we will meet at the Teal Pond on Shepard Road which is a couple of miles south of Marben Farm Road (where the main entrance is) and just over the Jasper County line.

As always, ORAS trips are open to the public.  Please bring binoculars and scopes, if desired, water, snacks etc.  Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear.  We will be mostly driving from point to point with in the Center, but will venture from the cars on foot from time to time.

Note: Each participant must purchase the GORP pass to access this Wildlife Center. Passes can be purchased online for $3.50 for a three-day pass or $19.00 for an annual pass. For more information or to purchase and print the pass, go to www.georgiawildlife.com/Georgia-Outdoor-Recreational-Pass.  I have a GORP Group pass that will let me take up to 7 other people.  Contact me to save a slot - first come, first served.

Information about the Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center can be found here.

Contact Ed Maioriello at fieldtrip AT oconeeriversaudubon.org or at 706-296-5275 for questions.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On occasion, field trips may have to be cancelled (bad weather, etc.) or important details may change (for example, the original meeting spot for a site may have to be changed if there is a trail closure or parking problem). If you plan to attend a birdwalk, ALWAYS check www.oconeeriversaudubon.org the night before for updates.
