Bird Walk at the Tallassee Forest

Event Date:
Sunday, April 7, 2013 - 8:00am

We will be taking our first ORAS bird walk to the newly acquired Tallasee Forest.  Tallassee Forest is owned by Athens-Clarke County. It is not open to the public until the county has a management plan for it. ORAS has been given access for our walk.  We will enter Tallassee Forest from a power easement on Tallassee Road and proceed down the easement to the stream, wetland and floodplain forest and then back on a ridge road.  The roundtrip is 5 miles and on uneven ground. The easements are good birding areas and those who want to leave early can turn around at any time.

Directions:
Take Exit 15, Tallassee Oglethorpe from Loop 10 on the bypass.
Go 4 miles out Tallassee Rd.
Look for Burney-Harris Lyons Middle School on the right.
Park in the front of the school parking lot.
